AIR CADET LEAGUE OF CANADA – ONTARIO PROVINCIAL COMMITTEE
Job Posting – Financial Services Coordinator – Released on June 22, 2017

 

A full time contract position, an augmentation of existing services, until Aug 31, 2018 with the Air Cadet League of Canada, Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC), is available and we are now accepting applicants. OPC is looking for an individual to fill the role of Financial Services Coordinator at the provincial head office in Markham, Ontario. This position will be reviewed at that fiscal year end for such items as OPC funding, organizational fit and incumbent’s performance.  Overview of the Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC) at www.aircadetleague.on.ca

A Financial Services Coordinator is needed for the application of General Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) to action tasks in conjunction with OPC’s office staff and volunteers and external stakeholders such as financial auditors.  The OPC is responsible for Ontario’s 1600+ volunteers supporting 8,400+ Air Cadets in 120 units with:

  • Air Cadet programs – Support of added training such as Effective Speaking, Debating, & Trips
  • Squadron operations – Each community’s Squadron Support Committees (SSC) processes
  • League operations – Provincial screening, fundraising, insurance, recognition, & training
  • Business requirements – Financial compliance (such as Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) reporting

Initial duties will be for coordinating financial transactions between OPC, local SSC, OPC members and external parties such as invoicing, payments, tax receipting, and financial reporting.  The role will help OPC’s 120 local units in submitting their financial compliance documentation, such as current Excel spreadsheet (known as ACC-9) while transitioning to an electronic accounting system, and the assessment and lottery payments through collection monitoring, reviewing validity, and assisting with troubleshooting/training.  As needed, there will be assistance to existing Financial Services for OPC provincial accounting.  There is a potential of developing responsibilities for the day to day administration of the OPC office to provide direction and support to the staff and the distributed local volunteers as required.  There will be additional appropriate duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance or business administration, or similar relevant course
  • Completion of the second or third year of the Certified General Accountant (CGA), or similar program, leading to a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or comparable professional accreditation, with estimated minimum of three to five years of related finance experience
  • Ongoing experience within charity/not-for-profit sector with knowledge of federal and provincial legislation affecting charities, Canada Revenue Agency requirements
  • Current technology and computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint) with strong skills using Excel spreadsheets (formulae, tables) and electronic accounting systems such as Sage or Quick Books
  • Ongoing involvement within the Air Cadet League, Canadian Cadet or other youth agency an asset
  • Proof of ability to multi-task, manage tight deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced office environment
  • Strong business ethics, professional conduct and responsible with sensitive and confidential issues
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills with adult training experience preferred
  • Verbal and written fluency in English and experience in proofing correspondence

Additional Information

  • Working primarily from OPC office in Markham and periodic travel within Ontario may be required.
  • Ongoing access to reliable vehicle with appropriate valid licenses and insurance.
  • 40 hours per week with a 30 minute paid meal time (37.5 hours work) and two fifteen minute breaks with a slightly flexible work schedule for some evening and weekend work as required.

Compensation

  • Remittance TBD ~ equivalent to yearly salary of $45,000 – $65,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Contract level company benefit package possible following probation.
  • Statutory essentials (such as Vacation) plus planned 2-week shutdown during Dec holiday timeframe.

A full time contract position, to replace a retirement, until Aug 31, 2018 with the Air Cadet League of Canada, Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC), is available and we are now accepting applicants. OPC is looking for an individual to fill the role of Program Development Officer (PDO) at the provincial head office in Markham, Ontario. This position will be reviewed at that fiscal year end for such items as OPC funding, organizational fit and incumbent’s performance. A Program Development Officer is needed to action tasks in conjunction with OPC’s office staff, volunteers and external stakeholders such as Department of National Defence (DND) and community supporters.  Initial duties will be to plan, execute, and build relationships while working within a volunteer framework according to deadlines to support provincial League portfolios, regional cadet and volunteer operations as well as in aid of local squadron activities. The OPC is responsible for Ontario’s 1600+ volunteers supporting 8,400+ Air Cadets in 120 units with:

  • Air Cadet Programs – Support of added training such as Effective Speaking, Debating, & Trips

  • Demonstrated experience in volunteer management, fundraising, marketing, an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in relevant courses an asset.
